The inscription on the base of the American Soldier statue - Part of the Memorial Monument of Kane County

Located in the heart of Kane County, Illinois  is the The Kane County Veterans Memorial.

The Veterans Memorial was dedicated in 2004 to the memory of Kane County citizens soldiers that lost their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces.  It was designed by Guy Bellaver an established sculptor from St. Charles, Illinois.

The monument is comprised of multiple bronze plaques embedded in stone some facing inward towards the center of a half circle and other facing outward.   The plaques list the wars fought in the 20th century along with the names of the soldiers that made the ultimate sacrifice.   Standing tall in the middle of the half circle is the “CITIZEN SOLDIER STATUE” which is a depiction  of an American soldier walking an American flag almost draped above him.   The inscription on the bottom of the statue reads:

Freedom is not free – it must be earned and preserved by each succeeding generation.”

The plaques facing outward list the number of soldiers killed in action:

  • Spanish/American War – 8
  • World War I – 151
  • World War II – 567
  • Korea – 32
  • Vietnam 55
  • Cold War 29
  • Desert Storm – 1

It is located at : 719 S. Batavia Avenue – Geneva, IL 60134, USA  FLAG-US
